Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of Frederick Wilhelm and Antonia Clara Marie Albrecht, of Gerang Gerung, Victoria.

HIS DUTY NOBLY DONE EVER REMEMBERED SAFE IN GOD'S CARE

Clarence Henry (Clarrie) was born at Gerang Gerung in 1920 and was the third son of Fred and Toni.

Clarrie was educated at the Gerang Gerung State Xhool and was a very bright scholar.  He left school after obtaining the Merit Certificate and worked on the family farm.   He worked horse teams and did general farm work such as carting hay, sewing bags and shearing.

On Sundays he would visit his mates then those mates would returne the visit to the 'Crimsondale' home.  His friends were very popular and always welcome with his parents and family,  Evenings would be filled in talking and singing around the pianola.  Clarrie was a good sportsman and played football with Gerang, he was also secretary of the Gerang Football Club.  He played cricket for the Gerang and represented West Wimmera in country week cricket in Melbourne.

Clarrie volunteered to join the 19th Machine Gun Regiment, training first at Hamilton then various other places before going to Darwin and was there when the Japanese bombed Darwin.  Clarrie then enlisted in the A.I.F. and returned home on leave.  When the 19th was split up he was sent to bouganville where he was later killed in action on the 24th July 1945 at the age of 25 years.

His life was well lived but cut short by the acrocity of war.
