ROLL OF HONOUR
“The sad news of the death in action of Leslie Edwin Bailey, second son of Mrs Bailey & the late Arthur Samuel Bailey, of Exmoor Station, Collinsville was received with sincere regret & we sincerely sympathise with Mrs Bailey & her family in the loss of this devoted son & brother who has died like so many of our bravest & best young lads, that we may live.
Les enlisted about 4 years ago & fought against the Japanese in many campaigns. He was wounded in 1943, making a good recovery, he was soon at it again. Les was born in Bowen on 23rd January, 1917, & ever since leaving school he had worked under his grand old Dad at Exmoor until war broke out. A splendid bushman & a horseman very superior to the average, & as a worker second to none. A fine type of lad & well liked by all who knew him. Still another Bowen boy has made the supreme sacrifice. RIP.”
