Private William Dene Rogers (Service No:2717) enlisted in the AIF on 21 June 1916 and embarked from Melbourne on 2 October 1916 with 58th Infantry Battalion on board HMAT Nestor A71. Private Rogers was WiA in France in July 1918 - GSW to thigh - and evacuated to England. He embarked for Melbourne on 3 May 1919 on board HT Leicestershire and was Discharged on 29 July 1919.

Born in April 1898 in Melbourne Victoria, William was the youngest of three children of William Rogers Snr (b1854 in Geelong, Victoria) and Ages Fox (b1866 in Smythsdale, Victoria). William Snr (a Carpenter) and Agnes married 1885 in Brunswick, Melbourne where they settled and raised their family. William Snr was a Carpenter and Inspector of Works.

In 1916 when he enlisted in the AIF, William gave his occupation as Electrical Mechanic, and following his Discharge returned to Melbourne where he worked as a Carpenter. In 1924 in Melbourne Victoria, William married Ada Josephine Jansen (b1906 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Ada was a Dressmaker. In 1925 William moved to Sydney NSW and Ada followed - they returned to Melbourne in 1926, then in 1927 went back to Sydney where William's mother Agnes lived with them. William and Ada separated and both returned to Melbourne where, in April 1930 William was seriously injured in a motor vehicle accident. William and Ada were divorced in 1931 and William continued living with his mother (until her death in 1934)and working as a Carpenter. In 1943 William was working for Victoria Rail as a Fireman.
