Victor Nathaniel BARCLAY was born on 13th April, 1918 in Belfast, Northern Ireland

His parents were James Samuel BARCLAY & Anne BUSSELL who also came in Australia with their other son George & lived in Victoria

He enlisted in the Army initially on 25th June, 1940 (SN VX25171) and was discharged on 3rd October, 1940

He applied to join the Royal Australian Navy the following day 4th October, 1940 (SN PM3066)

Victor was a Supply Assistant on the HMAS Sydney II when it was sunk by enemy action by the German ship Kormoran which was in disguise as a Dutch ship on 20th November, 1941 in the Indian Ocean off Western Australia - he was Killed in Action & buried at sea

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial, the Plymouth Naval Memorial in England and the Wall of Remembrance in Carnarvon, Western Australia

His brother George William BARCLAY (SN VX14023) also served during WW2 in the Army (HQ 7th Australian Division) and was discharged in 1945
