Max Milson BETTINGTON was born on 23rd October, 1921 in "Terragong", Merriwa, NSW

His parents were William John Hershall BETTINGTON & Alice Elliot MILSON who married in Sydney in 1919

He had previous service for 4 years in the Kings School Cadets at Parramatta and enlisted on 22nd June 1941 in Sydney with the Royal Australian Air Force - his last rank was wireless operator in the 466 Squadron

Max died in a Flying Battle in France on 3rd June 1944 - he was missing in air operations and his death was presumed at the time.  He was in a Halifax Aircraft HX271

He is buried in the Creux Communal Cemetery in Dreux, France, Row 1, Joint Grave 31

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial and the Roll of Honour in Merriwa & his Mother donated a pair of brass candlesticks for the altar at the Holy Trinity Church in Merriwa - they were dedicated by the Bishop of Newcastle, Dr Francis de Witt Batty
