Leading Aircraftman Frank Blakey 426859 of Number 40 Squadron was seriously injured in a Motorcycle Accident and died at 3rd Medical Receiving Station, Townsville

40SQN RAAF was formed in Townsville on 31 March 1944 and moved to Port Moresby on 22 July 1944 - the squadron operated Sunderland and Mariner aircraft
