LAC John McDowell Booth 19346 of Number 1 Repair & Salvage Unit at Higgins Field, Cape York, was killed when he was thrown off the wing of Vultee Vengeance A27-203 when the port wheel hit a culvert, he was a ground crewman guiding the aircraft into a dispersal area by riding on the aircraft’s wing. A27-203 was allocated to Number 5 Communication Unit - the pilot was Flying Officer Ronald McTier 428344 (KIA 6Nov44)
