Frank Broomfield, postcard to penpal.

Frank was the penpal of Marjorie Donaldson, my mother. Young ladies were encouraged to write to soldiers serving overseas to keep their marale up. Frank wrote Marjie a postcard, which read:
'To My Dearest Girl Marjorie
With love from her soldier Frank'.

He signed off with 'Onward to Victory'

He also wrote on the postcard:
QX19819 Broomfield F W, 2/15th Bat
Wounded at Alamein, 4th August 1942

Frank was born in Nambour, Queensland on 14th June 1920. He enlisted on 19th June 1942 at Brisbane, aged 21 years. was wounded at Alamein on 4th August 1942. Sent to New Guinea, July 1943. Sent to Morotai, April 1945. KIA, Tarakan, Borneo on 3rd June 1945, aged 24 years.

Buried at Labuan War Cemetery, Malaysia. The inscription on his headstone is:
A Short Lie in the Saddle, Lord; Not a Long Life by the Fire
