Born 18 August 1917 in Petersham, New South Wales.

Father Edward Henry Buls and Mother Bessie Isabella Buls, of East Balmain, New South Wales.

Bruce lived with his parents at 19 Nicholson Street, East Balmain, NSW on enlisting.

Bruce completed Diploma of Agriculture at Hawkesbury College - Surveyor.

Worked as a Forest Survey and Scientific Research Assistant - Agrostologist, in Department
of Agriculture, NSW.

Previous service: 1 year 4th Civil Militia  & 12th Light Horse Regiment
                         discharged to join RAAF

Described on enlisting as 23 yrs 3 mths old; single; 5' 7" tall; 154 lbs;
fair complexion; hazel eyes; light brown hair; Church of England
