EVER IN OUR THOUGHTS
LATE SERGT.-PILOT A. BUTTEL.
Mr. and Mrs. M. Buttel, of West Street, Hurstville, whose son, Sergeant Pilot Albert F. Buttel, had previously been reported missing and believed killed in air action, have now received a communication from the Air Board, Melbourne, stating that, from a German report, the body of their son had been recovered from the sea, and had been buried in the Lutheran Cemetery, Borkum Island.
Buttel joined the R.A.A.F. on March 3 1941. He received his training under' the Empire Air-Training Scheme, firstly at Narrandera and left for Canada in July, 1941, and later proceeded to England. He was boated missing during night air operations early in June this year when he took part in the big Emden raid as second pilot of a' Manchester bomber. He commenced his school ing at South Hurstville, later at Canterbury High School, and Sydney Technical High School. He was an industrial chemist before joining the R.A.A.F., and was 21 years of age at the time off his death.
