Halwyn Wilfred (Hal) BUTTSWORTH was born in Launceston, Tasmania on 12th September, 1909
His parents were Arthur Joshua BUTTSWORTH & Alice Irene CAGNEY
He married Ella Annie Merrie McLEOD in Sydney in 1939 - one daughter Anne who he never met
He enlisted in Paddington, Sydney on 16th September, 1941 with the 2nd/19th Infantry Battalion - he was taken a Prisoner of War on 15th February, 1942 (see links for further information about him)
Hal was taken ill with pneumonia but recovered and was then stricken with acute enteritis and died in the Fukouka POW Camp in Japan & is buried in the Yokohama War Cemetery
His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial & the POW Memorial in Ballarat
