AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING WE REMEMBER
Jack was a member of an established farming family in the Ulupna and Strathmerton areas. His father was involved in setting up higher education in Numurkah.
Jack worked on the family farm before enlisting in the 2nd AIF in 1940. He fopught with the 9th Division in the Middle East including at Tobruk. He was wounded, promoted to Captain and mentioned in dispatches for exceptional service.
He died of wounds in July, 1942.
Christie lies buried in the El Alamein War Cemetery in Egypt. He is remembered as an avid reader, energetic and enthusiastic. He was greatly respected for his care of others, his generosity and sense of resposibility.
Although Jack did not attend the Numurkah Higher Elementary School, his younger siblings did and 'Christie House' is one of the four 'houses' named in his honour at the School.
