PAYS SUPREME
SACRIFICE
W.A.G. Jack Clifford's Death in England
Forbes people were shocked on Sunday morning when the news gained currency that W.A.G. John Clifford, a Forbes boy who had only landed in England about the middle of July, had lost his life last Thursday. At the moment it is not known whether this was from air operations against the enemy or in an accident. The deceased airman was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Clifford, of 352 Clovelly Road, Clovelly, and their loss is made all the more sad by reason of the fact that it was only in  October last that another son, Sergt.-Pilot Mick Clifford, was killed over Gosford while carrying out a test flight after being far some time with an Australian Spitfire squadron in England. A third son, William, is a fighter pilot with the R.A.A.F. in  Western Australia.
W.A.G. John Clifford spent his school days at Forbes, and for a time was employed by Mr. H. Wilson. He then went to Sydney with his parents, and for a time was employed at Mark Foy's before entering the Air Force. He was not 21 years of age and only  sailed from Australia last May.
As a mark of respect to his memory the flag at Forbes Town Hall was flown at half-mast on Sunday, while prayers for the repose of his soul were offered at St. Laurence's Catholic Church during the day.
