Peter Robert Newby COGGINS was born in Sydney on 2nd August, 1917

His parents were Sydney Joseph COGGINS & Marjorie May O'BRIEN who married in Sydney in 1916

He died in Borneo as a Prisoner of War on 7th June 1945 - no known grave

His name is listed in the Australian War Memorial & the Labuan Memorial

Biography

"...NX59163 Sergeant Peter Robert Newby Coggins, 2/18th Battalion, Australian Infantry. He was one of over 2000 Allied prisoners of war (POW) held in the Sandakan POW camp in north Borneo, having been transferred there from Singapore as a part of B Force. The 1494 POW's that made up B Force, were transported from Changi on 7 July 1942 on board the tramp ship Ubi Maru, arriving in Sandakan Harbour on 18 July 1942. Sergeant Coggins, aged 27, died as a prisoner of the Japanese on 7 June 1945. He was the son of Sydney Joseph and Marjorie May Coggins, of Wahroonga, NSW.
