Son of Charles and Sarah Arabella Cook, Cressy Road, Campberdown, Vic.
The Department of the Army has informed Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cook, Cressy road, Camperdown, that their eldest son, Gnr. William Charles Quinten Cook. A.I.F., who was reported missing, believed prisoner of war, is now presumed to have lost his life on a Japanese prison ship, sunk on September 12, 1944. Gnr. Cook, who was 31 years of age, was born at Camperdown, and was educated at the State school and the Camperdown Higher Elementary school. On leaving school he worked on his parent's farm until the time of his enlistment, early in 1940. He was captured at the fall of Singapore. He was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and as a lad was a member of the Camperdown Boy Scouts. He was keen on sport and played cricket and football. Gnr. Cook was of brother of Allan, Ian (both of the A.I.F.), Mervyn, Reginald and Gladys, and to them and Mr. and Mrs. Cook the sympathy of all will be extended in their sad loss.
