Pilot Officer Maxwell Tylney Cotton DFC 408204 was killed when Whirlibomber P7000 (Westland Whirlwind) of Number 263 Squadron RAF was when shot down by flak north east of Sark in the Channel Islands while on a shipping reconnaissance mission

His body was not recovered and he is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial

Maxwell Tylney COTTON was born on 2nd May, 1921 in Swansea, Tasmania

His parents were Arthur Tylney COTTON & Louisa Kate LYNE

He enlisted in Hobart on 25th April, 1941 in the Royal Australian Air Force

He was serving with the 263 Squadron of the RAF when he died in a Flying Battle on 15th June 1943

Tragically his Mother Louisa & his sister Jean had also been killed in 1936 in an accident at Swansea involving a Hawker Demon Aircraft which crashed

His brother Douglas Phillipson COTTON (SN T26874) served in the Army during WW2 and was discharged in 1946 (rank Lieutenant)
