A.B. Brian Wesley ("Barney") Craike was the younger son of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Craike, New Town. He was a naval reservist and was mobilised in September, 1939, and drafted to  H.M.A.S. Sydney in January, 1940. He was aged 21 years.
