Sergeant George Clarence Curle 207732 RAAF was accidentally shot in Cairo, Egypt and died at the 15th Scottish General Hospital

When 3 Squadron changed from being a Westland Lysander equipped army co-operation squadron to being a single-seat fighter squadron equipped with Gloster Gauntlets and Gloster Gladiators, their wireless operator / air gunners and photographers were no longer needed and were transferred to other units. Sergeant Curle was transferred to HQ 202 Group RAF on 7/1/41 then to the Blenheim equipped Number 55 Squadron on 10/2/41
