Wing Commander John William Daniell was the son of John James Daniell and Marguerette Gertrude Daniell, of Mount Lawley, Western Australia.

Wing Commander Daniell was the captain of RAAF Catalina aircraft A24-25 and was recorded as having been lost on an anti-submarine patrol while operating from Cairns QLD, 11 crew members were lost.
