Squadron Leader Leslie Roy Dawson 260968 was on Royal Netherlands East Indies Air Force C-47 (Dakota) DT-941 (VH-RDK) which went missing on a flight from Merauke in PNG to Cairns with 20 personnel on board.
The wreckage was discovered north west of Mossman by a scientific expedition in January 1989. The remains of those killed were recovered from the crash scene in July 1989 and are interred in a Collective Grave at the Cairns War Cemetery.
