Flying Officer Evans 713 in Tomahawk AN343 of 3SQN was killed when his aircraft was lost at sea near Tobruk - his body was not recovered and he is commemorated on the Alamein Memorial, Egypt

He was part of a group of Tomahawk fighter aircraft that intercepted a force of up to seventy enemy aircraft over Sidi Rezegh - he was last seen chasing a Messerschmitt out to sea near Tobruk
