George Horwood FAUCKNER was born in Perth, Western Australia on 12th June, 1916

His parents were Edgar Horwood FAUCKNER & Mary (Mollie) BYRNE who married on 28th January, 1914 at St Georges Cathedral, Perth, WA

After leaving school he was employed at Nestles Chocolate as a Salesman.  Prior to his enlistment he served in an Artillery Militia Unit from Feb. 1935 rising through the ranks to Sergeant and then Lieutenant

He enlisted in Perth on 17th January, 1940 and embarked on the HMAT Queen Mary in May, 1940 with the 2/3rd Field Regiment - the regiment camped at Wiltshire and then Colchester where he attended two artillery courses at Larkhill, UK

George was Killed in Action on 21st May, 1941 in Crete, Greece and is buried in the Suda Bay Cemetery in Greece

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial and he has a memorial plaque in the Botanical Gardens in Western Australia
