Pilot Officer Field 412939 in Kittyhawk FX704 of 3SQN was killed when his aircraft was hit by AA fire in the Arezzo region of Italy
He was part of a group of Kittyhawk fighters that took-off from Falerium airfield on an armed sweep; passing Arezzo ten German vehicles were seen on the road and attacked - intense 88mm, 40mm and 20mm flak opened up, and FX704 was hit by a rocket projectile and immediately caught fire and dived into the ground.
