Pilot Officer Ronald Edward Robert Fountain 421195 was killed when Mustang KH630 of 3SQN RAAF crashed approximately 50 miles off the Italian coast - his body was not recovered and he is commemorated on Panel 16, Column 1 of the Malta Memorial
Flight Lieutenant Roediger led a formation of eleven aircraft on a long-range strafing operation to Brod-Sarajevo in Yugoslavia that was scrubbed due to bad weather. On the return leg they were all running low on fuel over the Adriatic but returned safely, except for Ron Fountain
