"BELIEVED KILLED IN ACTION

PTE ALEX. R. FOWLER, 30, of Brunswick, former staff photographer of The Weekly Times, who was previously reported missing from an A.I.F. unit, is now believed to have been killed in action. When news was last received from him he was fighting in the Western Desert. He was married and had one daughter. He was well known in country districts where he took photographs for The Weekly Times. He began as a messenger boy on The Herald. He was educated at Brunswick Technical School, and was a champion swimmer. He enlisted in the AIF last August, and sailed in November. A brother is serving wiih the R.A.A.F., and another is with the R.A.F." - from the Melbourne Weekly Times 12 Jul 1941 (nla.gov.au)
