Flight Lieutenant Charles Burton Gaden (# 289) of 3SQN RAAF was shot down near Sollum in the Egyptian Western Desert while flying Gloster Gladiator biplane N5765
A flight of Gladiator aircraft was attacked by a force of eight Italian Air Force Fiat C.R.42 biplane fighters - in the ensuing dogfight Flight Lieutenant Gaden was shot down and killed
