Son of William Middleton and Jane Mary Middleton nee Merrifield of Skene Street, Geelong, Victoria.

Brother of William Leslie Middleton who returned to Australia on 23 May 1917 having served with the 14th Battalion; Arthur Stephen Middleton who returned to Australia on 15 February 1918 having served with the 20th Battalion; Hubert Alan Middleton who returned to Australia on 4 July 1919 having served with the Army Pay Corps; Vera Tillie Middleton, Percy Oswald Middleton, Victor Hubert Middleton and Harold Gordon Middleton
