He served at H.M.A.S. Cerberus 24 Nov 1941 to 11th Jan 1942

Leeuwin (W.A.) 4th July 1942 - 24th May 1943

H.M.A.S. Wallaroo 25th May 1943 where he served as a Motor Mechanic, he died 11th June 1943 after a collision with an Allied freighter, the United States Liberty Ship Henry Gilbert Costin, at 11:55 p.m., off the West Australian coast.

The collision occurred shortly after midnight off the Western Australian coast, approximately west of Fremantle. The night was dark and overcast and in accordance with wartime precautions the vessels were steaming without navigation lights burning.

William's body was lost at sea

George left a loving wife Lillian Mary to mourn his loss. They were married 25th October 1939
