Son of Alfred Ernest and Ruby GLANFIELD nee LINDSAY
Husband of Margaret Therese GLANFIELD, of 14 Montgomery Street, East Brighton, Victoria, Australia.
His aircraft crashed near Buer Hasbel on 13th June 1944 presumably as the result of enemy action. Beur Hasbel is situated approximatley 5 miles north of Gelsenkirchen. His and the bodies of six other crew members were recovered by the Germans and interred in the Gelsenkirchen Cemetery. Following exhumation they were reburied at Reichswald Forest War Cemetery.
Mrs. J.L. Glanfield, of Porter Street, Prahran, has been advised that her husband, Flight-Sgt. John L Glanfield has been reported missing. He was a member of the crew of a Lancaster bomber which failed to return to base after a raid on Germany on June 13. Flight-Sgt. Glanfield trained at Somers, Parkes and Port Pirie and sailed for England in August 1943. He had taken part in many operatins over Germany and also in the invasion of France.
