Private Clive Arthur
Clive was born in Lismore, NSW, was never married and he enlisted in the army. When he enlisted on the 20th of July 1915, he was a private and left to go to war at the age of 18. Clive was educated at Lismore High School and after leaving he became an ironmonger’s assistant. His religion was Methodist. Clive was part of the 2nd Light Horse, 12th reinforcement. Clive holds a British War Medal and a Victory Medal. He served in Egypt, Palestine and at Gallipoli. Clive died of wounds in Egypt on the 24th of November 1917. He is buried in the Cairo War Memorial Cemetery row O grave twenty two at the age of 20. Clive served in the army cadets before transferring to the Australian Army to serve in Egypt, Palestine and in the First World War at Gallipoli where he was shot and killed by an enemy gunman at Gallipoli. He died from wounds on the battlefield.
Clive’s service number was 1537, His cousin who also served in the war was Private Leslie Arthur from the 2nd Light Horse Regiment who was killed in battle on the 7th of August 1915.
