Frank Ephraim HAMALAINEN was born on 12th July, 1901 in Brisbane, Queensland

His parents were Edward (Edvart) HAMALAINEN & Olga RAHKANEN

He married May Alice Elsie PEGG in Queensland on 5th March, 1927 - one son Frank

He enlisted in Kelvin Grove, Queensland on 10th July, 1940 - he was a Gunner with the 2/10th Field Regiment (Royal Australian Artillery) 

Frank died of Illness as a Prisoner of War of the Japanese in Borneo on 17th March, 1945 - his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial, The Labuan Memorial and the Prisoner of War Memorial in Ballarat, Victoria
