Astley Bertram Cornelis HAMERSLEY was born on 26th February, 1889 in Greenough, Geraldton, Western Australia
His parents were George HAMERSLEY and Emily Jane ANDERSON who married on 2nd November, 1880 in Greenough, WA
Astley served in WW1 twice as he was invalided home & returned in 1917 with the 25th Reinforcements of the 10th Light Horse Regiment - he was hospitalized several times due to illness.
He was promoted to Lance Corporal & Corporal & later obtained a commission on 15th June 1918 to be a Lieutenant
He returned to Fremantle on the ship RMS Karmala on 4th August, 1919 and was discharged on 20th September, 1919. He was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal & the Victory Medal.
Astley married Wilhelmina Mary Isobel Flora NORTH in 1920 in Perth WA
On 11th December, 1941 he enlisted in Claremont, WA for service in WW2 and was with the 26 Employment & Works Company
Astley died on 18th November, 1944 at the Hollywood Hospital in Western Australia due to illness and is buried in the Perth War Cemetery
His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial & the Roll of Honour in Mosman Park, WA

3. Emily Jane HAMERSLEY (SN113583) served WW2 in the RAAF and was discharged in 1945
