RAAF Avro Anson aircraft DG826 from Number 1 Aircraft Depot Laverton crashed at Black Forest, between Macedon and Woodend in Victoria - three crew were killed:
Flight Lieutenant Richard Craighton Hart 260719 (member appears in the book "Those Other Eagles" by Christopher Shores)
Sergeant Vincent Ambrose McCarthy 8940
Flight Lieutenant Warren Robert Brodrick 256823 (RAAF medical officer)
There was one survivor: Flight Sergeant Norman Eric Mutton 406575 (discharged from the RAAF in 1946)
It is believed that the crew lost their bearings in heavy fog and tall trees were grazed by a wing tip before the crash. The navigator was saved by being thrown from the plane and was taken to Woodend Bush Nursing Hospital with severe injuries.
