Flying Officer Allen George Hartwig was the son of Berthold and Florence Hartwig of Wagga. Born in Lockhart in 1915, he was a garage proprietor at the time of enlisting. Allen was killed in action on 17 November 1943 when his Sunderland aircraft, K "Katie" (No. 10 Squadron, RAAF) went down over the Bay of Biscay. He was just 28 years old.
