Son of Walter Alexander Birrell and Margaret Julia Haynes, of Armadale, Western Australia.
FAITHFUL AND BRAVE UNTO DEATH
LAC Gosden 406843 in Harvard AJ611 and LAC Haynes 406861 in Harvard N7063 from 22 SFTS Thornhill were killed when their training aircraft collided in mid-air four miles north west of the town of Guinea Fowl, Rhodesia during formation flying training (22 Service Flying Training School South Rhodesian Air Force)
