Second youngest of ten children. Her father died when she was eight years old and her mother died just before the outbreak of war. Ivy trained in Geelong Hospital, passing her exams in 1908 and became the Sister in Charge of the Medical and Surgical Ward. She was posted to the Convalescent Depot, Harefield Park, London commencing duty on 3 September 1915. After serving two years there, Ivy was transferred on 21 September 1917 to No 1 Australian General Hospital in Rouen France.
After the war Ivy lived Munday Street Torquay with her sister. She was living in Camperdown when the 1940 bushfire wiped out much of Torquay where Ivy's house was one of those burnt in the fire. She rebuilt with her sister and was living in Torquay when she died in 1953 aged 72 years.
