Reported Missing
Mrs. Holmes, of Bentley, who received word that her son, Pilot Officer Edward James Holmes, was missing from air operations on July 1 last, has also had a letter from the Air Board informing her of his promotion to the rank of Pilot Officer as from March 4, 1944.

Son of Mrs H. Holmes, of Bentley, Pilot Officer Edward James Holmes, reported missing in air operations over Yugoslavia in July, 1944, has now been presumed killed in action. Pilot Officer Holmes was well known in Lismore, Casino, and surrounding districts. He enlisted in the R.A.A.F. in 1941 and trained in Australia and England as a bomber pilot. Sent to Italy he saw many months service with the  Central Mediterranean forces. He is survived by his mother and one brother, Norman (Bentley), and two sisters, Mary (W.A.A.A.F.), and Nancy (Mrs. R. Buckland, Edenville).

DEATH OF AIRMAN CONFIRMED
CASINO, Monday.—The Department of Air has confirmed the death of Pilot Officer Edward James Holmes, who was reported killed in 1946. This information has been forwarded to Mrs. A. C. Holmes, of Casino, and late of Bentley. The remains are interred at the Belgrade British Military Cemetery. The grave will be cared for by the Imperial War Graves Commission.
