Villers-sous-Preny is a village and commune 33 kilometres north-west of Nancy and 52 kilometres south east of Verdun. In the churchyard, east of the church, are the graves of the four airmen, including F/Sgt Hopgood, killed when their Lancaster ARJ2 was shot down on 24/2/1944.

He married Margaret Warren NEWLANDS in Brisbane on 27th May, 1939

His brother Colin Vincent HOPGOOD also served during WW2 as a Captain in the 1st Signals, AIF (SN QX5304) and was discharged on 4th February, 1946
