Killed in Action - Sergt. Roy John Jabour RAAF
Word was received from the Air Board last night by Mr. and Mrs. O. Jabour, of South Grafton, that their son, Sergt. Roy Jabour, R.A.A.F., aged 22, was killed in action on the day of January 24, at Port Ellen, Islay. Scotland. Roy enlisted in the R.A.A.F. in 1940. He trained first at Lindfield and then at Narromine. After he had completed his elementary flying course he was sent to Canada for further training. After a stay of some nine months in Canada, he was selected for ferry service, and flew to England in a Lockheed Hudson bomber. On arrival in England, he was assigned to Coastal Command and posted to a Sunderland Flying Boat squadron. Until the time of his death, most of his operational flying was done in and around the coast of Scotland. Prior to enlisting in the R.A.A.F., Roy was a student of the Grafton High School where he passed his Leaving Certificate. During his term at the High School, he participated actively in sport, and represented the school in athletics and football for several years running. He also represented the school in cricket. He was 22 and the son of Osma and Rose Jabour, of Grafton South, New South Wales, Australia. [He is remembered on their grave] Also killed in this incident was his countryman, Sergeant Ernest Geoff Palmer, Service Number 401718, aged 25 and he rests in the adjacent grave.
