Son of Norman Dalwood Johnston and Kathleen May Johnston, of Parramatta.
Raymond Dalwood Johnston worked as a Junior Clerk in Parramatta NSW before enlisting with the RAAF on 20 May 1944 aged 18. Initally training as an Air Gunner he was posted to 7 OTU in Tocumwal in November 1944.
On board Liberator A72-112 for a non-operational cross country training flight, the aircraft crashed with 11 crew on board just east of the Aerodrome. Sergeant Johnston sustained a fractured skull and was transported to Hospital where he later died on 15 February 1945.
