Stanley Maxwell Johnston - 425166 – RAAF – Wooroolin WW11 Honour Board
Stanley Maxwell Johnston, known as Max, was born 19 Jan 1920 at Kingaroy, the 8th child of Wes & Frances Johnston. The Johnson Family arrived in Wooroolin in 1919 when siblings Frank, Joseph & Eric were enrolled at Wooroolin School, sister Nancy was enrolled in 1923 and Max joined them in 1926. The family lived on portions 147v & 4 of Wooroolin, which were owned by Frank Jacobson in my time.
In 1924 Maxs’ brother, Eric Johnston, died in an accident on the way home from school when he was thrown from his horse and hit his head on a stump. Max is included in the 1926 School photo on page 14 of the book From Federation to Future by Dr Judith Grimes.
Max enlisted in the Royal Australian Airforce on 31 Jan 1942 at Brisbane. His service records are not yet available on the NAA website but we do know that he was part of the 11 Operational Training RAF based in RAF Station Westcott, Buckinghamshire when he died in an aircraft accident in Oxfordshire.
