First reported wounded and missing at Krithia, Gallipoli 8 May 1915. Confirmed killed in action 8 May 1915 by a Court of Enquiry held in May 1916. Age 26. Hailed from Homebush,which was a small gold mining town about 10 kilometres from Avoca in central Victoria.

His brother 1877 Private Wesley Richard Rowland 31st Battalion AIF was killed in action at Fromelles 21 July 1916, age 24. (Recorded as Rowlands on the AWM Roll of Honour)

A third brother, the youngest, VX24175 Private Lindsay Ebenezer Rowland 2/22nd Battalion AIF died as POW at sea 1 July 1942, (Montevideo Maru) age 42, during the Second World War.
