Cpl Leslie Clark KRIEGER (1909-1945)
NX29065 Cpl Leslie Clark Krieger, 2/10th Field Ambulance, Australian Army Medical Corps.
One of over 2000 Allied prisoners of war (POW) held in the Sandakan POW camp in north Borneo, having been transferred there from Singapore as a part of B Force.
The 1494 POW's that made up B Force, were transported from Changi on 7 July 1942 on board the tramp ship Ubi Maru, arriving in Sandakan Harbour on 18 July 1942.
Cpl Krieger, aged 35, died as a prisoner of the Japanese on 24 February 1945.
Born 23 June 1909, Mackay Qld. The son of John and Margaret Krieger.
The husband of Sgt Daisy Marie Krieger nee Bennett (AWAS) of Mackay, Qld.
Previous to enlisting, Leslie was a Police Constable in Queensland.
He is commemorated on the Labuan Memorial Panel 26.
