Son of James Thomas Haliburton Laidlaw  and Elfwyn Anne Laidlaw; husband of Betty Patricia Laidlaw of Kew, Victoria

Came under attack by enemy aircraft while do a reconnaissance in the Hopoi River area and was not seen again. At the time he was attached to 4 Squadron which consisted of Wirraway and Boomerang aircraft

Also served in the Geelong College Cadet Corps
