John Henry Little
John Henry Little was born in Coburg Victoria to parents, Edwin Allen Little and Edith May Deane. At 14 years of age, while riding his bike with a neighbour and friend, William George Walters, they collided with a motor lorry. Although John had minor injuries, his friend died later in the Melbourne Hospital. At the inquest into the death, we are told that John didn't appear, as his mother died earlier that day. Obviously, a traumatic time for him. His will as part of his record on the National archives of Australia, incidentally, leaves his estate to his father and his mother's sister in law Margaret Ada Deane, telling us, she played a caring role in his life, before his father's remarriage.
John had a brother, who also served, Albert Edwin Little and a younger sister, Rita May Little. as noted on his mother's death notice. An older sister, Maisie, died at two years of age.
John is recorded as working in the Timboon, Port Campbell area in later times.
He joined the 2/2 Pnr. Bn. Australian infantry and sadly passed away in Indonesia at age 28 years of age on 4th March 1942. he is buried according to the Commonwealth War Graves site at Djakarta War Cemetery Indo 2.
He is listed on the Port Campbell Honour Roll as well as in Coburg.
