Died on this date - 21st March........Private Michael Francis Lloyd was born at Stawell, Victoria in 1884. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 22nd March, 1916 as a 30 year old, single, Labourer from Warracknabeal, Victoria.
Private Lloyd arrived in England for further training before being sent to the Front & was posted to 12th Training Battalion at Rollestone, Wiltshire on 21st July, 1916. He joined 46th Battalion at the Front on 4th October, 1916.
Private Lloyd was sent sick to Hospital on 12th February, 1917. He was invalided to England & was admitted to Reading War Hospital, Berkshire, England on 24th February, 1917 with Influenza & Bronchitis. He recovered & returned to France & rejoined 46th Battalion at the Front on 25th August, 1917.
Private Lloyd was wounded in action on 1st October, 1917. He was invalided to England & admitted to Fort Pitt Military Hospital, Chatham, Kent, England on 1st February, 1918 with multiple shrapnel wounds to head, arm, chest – severe.
Private Michael Francis Lloyd died at 1.25 am on 21st March, 1918 at Fort Pitt Military Hospital, Chatham, Kent, England from wounds received in action – shrapnel wound to chest. He was buried in Fort Pitt Military Cemetery, Rochester, Kent, England where 9 other WW1 Australian Soldiers are buried (with one serving with the NZ Forces)
