Sergeant MacDiarmid 404345 in Kittyhawk AL153 of 3SQN was killed when his aircraft was shot down near Acroma in Libya - his body was not recovered and he is commemorated on the Alamein Memorial, Egypt

He was in a group of four aircraft from 3SQN bombing and strafing enemy Motor Transport when they were attacked by a force of German Messerschmitt 109 fighters
