"NX20000 Private Rowallan George (Roy) MacDonald. 2/20th Battalion. He was born in Scotland and emigrated to Australia with two of his brothers, following another brother who emigrated to Australia after serving with the 1st AIF and being allocated a soldier settlement land grant at Mandagery. He enlisted at Paddington, NSW on 4 June 1940 with his brother Alec, who was killed in action in Syria on 23 June 1941, aged 41. Pte Roy MacDonald was a prisoner of war (POW) of the Japanese and died at Hellfire Pass on the Burma Thai Railway on 4 November 1943, aged 39." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
