21 Jul 1945:	Involvement Australian Military Forces (WW2) , Lieutenant, 2nd/21st Infantry Battalion, Ambon, Member of Gull Force, died on this date whilst a prisoner of the Japanese. Nature of death recorded as beri beri.

Lieutenant Murray Hay Macdowell, son of the late Mr Hay Macdowell
and Mrs. Alice Macdowell, is reported to have lost his life on July 21 last while a prisoner of war on Ambon. Lieut Macdowell was educated at Brighton Grammar School, and afterwards joined the staff of the E. S. and A Bank. A member of the University Rifles, he enlisted in June, 1940, and was a member of the 2/21st Battalion.
