John Holtham Hamon MASSIE was born on 18th March, 1920, Sydney
His parents were Lieut.-Col. Robert John Allright MASSIE (/explore/people/300253) (a WW1 veteran and Australian Test Cricket Captain) and Phyllis Wood LANG who were married at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Brompton, London on 3rd June 1919
John enlisted with the Royal Australian Air Force on 18th Sept. 1940-He was a Leading Aircraftman who later was promoted to Captain with the 1 Australian Air Liason Group
He was discharged on 15th July, 1941 - Posting on discharge was the 3 RAAF Hospital
He was Killed when flying as a liason officer with the Americans in the Pacific - No known grave - He is commemorated at the Lae Memorial and the Australian War Memorial
